Guerlain Ecrin 2 Couleurs #09 Two VIP from Meteorites Blossom Collection for Spring 2014, Swatches & Review

Guerlain named the Spring Collection after their reformulated Meteorites. I didn't pick any of these considering I have three different Meteorites I am trying to finish at the moment and I am so happy with them that I wouldn't change a thing. I am using Meteorites everyday as a finishing powder over my foundation. After I am finished with mine, it will be exciting to try the new formulation though, hoping that it still works wonders as the old one does. Besides reformulated Meteorites, Spring Collection, Meteorites Bloom had other pretty items too, like an eye shadow duo in #09 Two VIP.

The moment I have seen it, I knew I had to try it. I love taupe shades and the glitter looked very pretty and vivid, in a purple way, which I really can't resist.

Upper shade in the compact looks very blue in the pan but once swatched it is a semi transparent lavender with pink, silver and purple mixed glitter. It is very pretty but to build up the shade definitely takes time. Lower shade is a gorgeous taupe with slight pinkish undertones. This one has a satin to matte texture. If two shades are layered, the result can be anywhere from lavender to taupe depending on which shade is used more intensely.

I applied the taupe shade all over the lid and padded the glitter shade on top. I have to admit, I can't understand the resulting effect of lavender glittery eye look. I mean, it was already rather lavender than taupe with the lower shade and the glitter shade somehow only intensified this. I know I have an interesting complexion which turns everything to berry/purple/violet direction but this time the effect was really strong.

Final thoughts: Overall I like how the resulting look turned out to be but I find this duo rather high maintenance. I think duos should be all about being practical and easy to apply but the purple glitter shade in this duo needs to be build to show, and taupe needed some blending. At this price range, I would expect that everything should apply pretty much on its own. Still lavender look is very pretty, for you purple fans out there, this one will carry you properly to Spring months.

Checked out Guerlain Spring? Anything catches your eye?

  1. I really love your end result, it truly looks great! I haven't been by Guerlain's counter recently so I don't know if these are in my area yet but I don't think they will be for me. I do want to swatch the new Météorites, so curious about the textures and finishes. :)

    1. Hi Icaria,
thanks! Yes you should check the collection out. Make sure to check out the blushes and new quad, both of which I am wearing today and ended up loving.

  2. When these duo eyeshadows were introduced last autumn I was very disappointed with the more shimmery part fall off and how difficult to use they are. I'm more about practicality and don't like when the eyeshadows are causing problems.

    1. Hi Irena,
I think these duos are not all bad, I like two Parisian for example and the glittery part is easier to work with but with Two VIP, it is stiffer, harder. To avoid fall out, I would recommend to use a finger to apply the glitter shades in general but of course I don't know if you are already doing that ;-)

  3. Lovely colour, but I absolutely agree about duos that they shouldn't be too high-maintainance especially with the Guerlain pricetag

    1. Yes, I think duo should be an easy thing, like I don't have time to work with four shadows so let me grab a duo, kind of ;-)

  4. Hi Sara
These two look so pretty in the pan but look like too much hard work.I was just told by the Guerlain SA in my country that they have decided to discontinue all existing meteorites. If the new limited one does well they will consider bringing them back -which reads "farewell"-we are also not getting the cheek bubbles and nail polishes-oh woe is me!

    1. Well, the new Meteorites didn't seem to be so much different so maybe it is not such a bad thing they are discontinuing them. I was actually very happy with the hardness of them so I wouldn't end up with a powdered face even with a heavy hand.
As for the blushes and nail polish, it is really a pity, I am enjoying both at the moment. But Chanel's creme blushes are close in texture I guess.

  5. OMG this duo looks GREAT on your skin tone! I swatched it the other day, and I think that purple requires a little more work as well. Still, can I say you simply look stunning? Now I am way more inclined to give it a go :)

    1. Hi Sunny,
Yes I needed to dab my finger in that one for multiple times before I could get some purple on my lids. The glitter shades in other Guerlain Duos I tried were softer, easier to work with. But the taupe is gorgeous and end result is worth it ;-)

  7. I was thinking about this one, but if it's hard to work with I don't know if I'll get it. It looks gorgeous on you though! Why are purples so hard to work with? Grrrr.. haha!
