Ever since the promo pictures of seven new Yves Saint Laurent nail polishes were released, I have been trying to track them down. Last year Tie & Dye Collection didn't make it to Germany so I was anxious about this one. My daily checking of feelunique.com paid off and I got my hands on six of the seven pieces. At the moment other than two of them, others seem to be out of stock there. I also know that extremely few pieces were sent to each retailer, but if you had the chance to track lay your hands on these, here they are...
Yves Saint Laurent La Laque Couture #41 Eau de Rose, #43 Opulente Cannelle, #44 Ambre Gingembre, #45 Piment D'Ailleurs, #46 Poivre Noir, #47 Feuille D'Or Spicy Nails Collection |
First shade is a nude. #41 Eau de Rose is a nice subdued light peachy pink creme. This one is a perfect shade for upcoming spring, fresh yet nude. Consistency was very good, in two coats it was opaque and there was no streakiness. Below you can see it with and without flash.

I was most curious about the interesting #42 Safran Sultan, which is a mustards shade and I don't own anything like that. That one is now released in US, so I am hoping to get my hands on it soon.
Here is the next shade, #43 Opulente Cannelle. Cannelle is cinnamon in French. Think about cinnamon sticks and you get a good idea of this shade. It is a mid toned brown tone which strongly pulls pink. It has a creme finish. When I first swatched it, I thought about Chanel Rose Confidential, which I later found out to be pinker than Opulente Cannelle. Comparisons are at the end of this post. Again excellent formula, below swatches are with two coats.

#44 Ambre Gingembre (Amber Ginger) must the most unique shade in this collection. It is a mid-toned rusty orange with creme finish. I own nothing like it and it was amazing to see how it looked on my nails. It needs a little bit of getting used to, that is for sure but worth trying for me since I love orange. Somehow this one reminds me of Autumn, but it might be uniquely chic during Spring.

Red and hot, next is the chili shade, #45 Piment d'Ailleurs, a medium to dark red with blue undertones and creme finish. I really liked this one and ended up wearing it after swatching. I also applied the top coat of this collection on my ring finger for some more fun. Top coat is called #47 Feuille d'Or (gold leaf). It has great quality, packed with golden leaves so that one doesn't have to fish them out. Below you can see with just one coat, it looks quiet intense.

Without black pepper, no spice collection would be complete, so as the last polish, here is # 45 Poivre Noir (black pepper). It is a deep red shade with some blue so that it looks more of a berry/plum on the nails. I also wore it last week and loved the way it looked. If you like your vamps as much as I do, you may want to check this one out. Just like all other nail polishes in this collection, it has great consistency. It is also opaque with two coats.

Here are some comparison swatches. A few Chanel nail polishes such as #507 Tendresse or #569 Emprise are close to YSL #41 Eau de Rose but no dupes since those are both more peachier. Chanel#521 Rose Cache is darker.
#43 Opulente Cannelle is close to Chanel #491 Rose Confidential and Chanel Delicatesse, which are both more pink than browner Opulente Cannelle. Chanel #579 Paparazzi is darker and it has shimmer.
YSL #44 Ambre Gingembre is very unique to my collection, thus I have nothing to compare it to.
Comparisons: Yves Saint Laurent La Laque Couture #41 Eau de Rose, #43 Opulente Cannelle, #44 Ambre Gingembre |
YSL #455 Piment D'Ailleurs is close to Chanel #533 April but more red and slightly darker. Chanel #455 Lotus Rouge is redder and a little darker.
YSL #46 Poivre Noir redder and browner once compared to Chanel #599 Provocation or YSL #40 Sepia 7E Art. Chanel #573 Accesoire is close but darker.

Final thoughts: A fun theme from YSL, very nice formula for all the nail polishes. Most unique are #42 Safran Sultan (not swatched) and YSL #44 Ambre Gingembre. Other are also nice but they may be a little more dupable.
Are you eyeing any of YSL Spicy Collection nail polishes? Which one of those are your favorite?
Hey Sara what are you doing with my Poivre Noir? It's got my name on it! :D
ReplyDeleteLOL, I literally laughed out loud to your comment!
Delete*puts Poivre Noir in an envelope and sends it to Icaria*
There's a good girl! :D
DeleteThat gold flakey looks pretty good! I think it might be a bit much on ALL the nails, but on one or two it's fun!
ReplyDeleteYes Sunny, I think you are right. I can only picture myself wearing it on all like on a Christmas Eve or a party themed "gold", lol.
DeleteOh, those gold flakes are awesome! I think it'd look great on black - and only as an accent nail colour or something.
ReplyDeleteHi Lily,
Deleteyes on black they would be cool. Also it is possible to apply them a little less dense by just running the brush once lightly. I might also like them on a nude, just blending with the background.
Oooh, I'm really digging the shades of this collection and the flakey golden topcoat makes this so complete!
ReplyDeleteYes Teri, shades are beautiful and some of them are so unique that I don't know if they look good on my skin tone because I have never worn something like that, like this burned orangy one, needs a bit of getting used to I guess :-)
DeleteHello
ReplyDeleteI'm from Lille north of France, you must buy number 42 in Galeries Lafayette Hausmann in Paris if you interesting. I have téléphone number!
Hi Lilie, thanks so much, would be great if you could give me the number.
DeleteDo you think Galeries Lafayette in Strasbourg have that too? I may drive there, it is very close from here :-)
I call tomorrow Strasbourg and answer you the response.
DeleteBut tel num from GL in Paris is +33 1 4281 3639, direct YSL corner. Ask her to send by chronopost in germany
Thanks so much for the phone numbers! I just happened to find Safran Sultan in US, and a friend sent it for me. Now I am really excited to complete my mini collection ;-)
DeleteIf you see this comment, maybe you could help me get the new Chanel highlighter though, this time I really need telephone numbers.
Hi,
ReplyDeleteI would please like to know what about Tom Ford Show me the pink compared to Ysl Eau de rose...
Thank you :-)
Hi there, you have sharp eyes, these must be very similar, I suspect Eau de Rose is lighter but I am going to check it out tonight and let you know. All I can say is that my show me the pink was very streaky by two coats but Eau de Rose applied much better.
DeleteHere is the verdict, Eau de Rose is slightly paler, Show me the pink is slightly pinkier, a tad more bright. Show me the pink has shimmer, Eau de Rose is plain cream. Once worn, then are very close. Hope that it helps.
DeleteHi,
DeleteThank you so much for your help :) i wasnt sure wether to get the YSL as well...
Have a great day!!!
Michaeli from Israel xxx
#44 is the best shade against my skin tone, but they all look so lovely on you! You NEED #42 to complete your collection, Sara!!!
ReplyDeleteYes I do and it is o its merry way to my arms, probably over the ocean right now ;-)
DeleteOh wow... I'm loving the look of these, all shades that are very much up my alley. I agree that Ambre Gingembre is the most unique and I really want to get my hands on that, but at the same time, I love Piment d'Ailleurs and Poivre Noir. And the top coat, for that matter. Great photos, as usual.
ReplyDeleteHi Kate,
Deleteyes aren't they so unique and pretty. It is also interesting to have those shades for Spring. I find myself reaching for pastels all the time but they will be a good change.
Did you get the collection in Canada yet?
They are so gorgeous! I simply could not be able to pick a fave but that Ambre Gingembre is such a beaut - it deserves to be on a pedestal :))
