Givenchy Palette Extravagancia Lip & Eye Palette for Fall 2014 Collection, Review, Swatch & FOTD

Highlight of the week was definitely seeing a seal close up yesterday on the shore. I didn't even know that Mediterranean has seals. It was shocking to watch something quiet big (bigger than a human) and black swimming at a high speed towards me, I thought I would never be able to see my stash again (talk about make-up addict's fears!). Then he (or she?) raised his head just a meter away from me and he was so adorable! Wish mustache and everything, and the cutest round face. Then he let out water in a funny way, lol. Have you ever seen a seal so close?

Today I would like to show you a product I tried to resist but gave up, it is the star product of Givenchy's Fall Collection, Extravagancia Lip & Eye Palette.

Givenchy Palette Extravagancia Lip & Eye Palette

Extravagancia Lip & Eye Palette is hosted in a sturdy plastic compact, which is covered with artificial leather, embossed with lovely golden Givenchy logo and a design suggesting leaves. It reminds me of an old luxurious book cover.

Packaging: Givenchy Palette Extravagancia Lip & Eye Palette

Inside the compact there is a 4 g/0.14 OZ eye shadow quad and a 1.9 g/0.06 OZ lipstick. As far as the size goes, lipstick is the half size of a regular Givenchy lipstick and eye shadow quad is exactly the same size to their Le Prism Eye Shadow Quartets. All in all you save a little (7€ or $9) which I think is not enough to justify getting the palette if this is the only reason. You should definitely love the colors before you decide.

Extravagancia's eye shadows are promising glamour, that is for sure. Two of them are glitter shades, one being a multi colored glitter which is pretty unique. Other two shades are satin to balance it all out and both of these are more on the less shimmery side.

Top left: Grey base with silver, pink, purple multi colored glitter. It is a unique and lovely shade which promises that you will be noticed. The best way to apply this shade is with fingers. I get a little on one of my fingers and lightly pad that on the application area. If you want precision, you may want to use your pinky ;-)

Top right: A deep warm brown with satin finish. It is a lovely shade to be used as a liner or to define the outer corners and crease.

Bottom left: Who said the radiant orchid is gone, here you see it recreated in the fall mood. A mid-toned cool orchid shade with satin finish. By seeing the pan, I was expecting something more complex, like duo chrome, it isn't that, but it is pretty nevertheless.

Bottom right: Golden glitter on a more or less colorless base recalls one of the most wanted purple combination, gold & purple. I use this shade again with my fingers and tab it onto the lid. I also like using it on inner corner since there is no other highlighter shade in the palette.

Below I applied the purple all over the lid, defined the crease with brown and padded the glitters as explained above all over the purple shade, mainly in the middle. I finished this look with a black kohl and black mascara.

In-action: Givenchy Palette Extravagancia Lip & Eye Palette

Lipstick and eye shadow parts of the palette is separated through two applicators, one with hair and other one sponge tipped. I like that the applicators are in between since there is nothing I hate more than my eye shadow sticking onto the surface of the lipstick, making it look dirty. Fortunately this didn't happen to me with Extravagancia. The lipstick shade is a sheer mid-toned warm pink, it is great to wear with smokey eyes or colorful make-up since it is subtle.

Below I am wearing Extravagancia on lips and eyes. The combination is lovely although I wouldn't classify this lipstick as Fall lipstick, nor would I think that these eye shadows are for autumn. It looks more like a holiday compact but I believe you can wear it all year around, whenever you need something glamorous.

FOTD with Givenchy Palette Extravagancia Lip & Eye Palette

I love the purple and the brown in the palette but I am a little undecided with two glitter shades. I find quad with two glitters lacking some versatility since there is only one base shade and a definition shade, the others are sheer and has to be applied on another eye shadow, which in this case is purple. Although I am a purple lover, I might even like the palette more if there would be one highlighter shade or a lighter base shade which doubles as a highlighter and blending shade over the crease.

Below I attempted another look with Extravagancia, I applied the brown to the inner and outer corner, the blended with purple in the middle to give that 3D eye lids effect. I then applied the glitters on the inner corner only. If it wouldn't be so hot in here, I would have done more looks but sweating and make-up don't get along so well.

Final thoughts: Extravagancia is glamorous, I would classify it as rather for a special occasion or a night out. The consistency and pigmentation is nice. I would love it even more if instead of one of the glitters, there would be a satin highlighter/base shade.

What do you think about this palette, yay or nay? Would you rather pay 7 bucks more and get the lipstick your heart desires or do you find it nice that they include a matching lippie in the palette?

    1. Thanks so much, I am on holiday at the moment and you can't believe my conditions here. Like I am using a mirror for checking out the outfit, and I have just a few travel size brushes with me. Technically it has to look awful ;-)

    1. I am not sure if it was such a good idea to see how big a seal can be though, lol, I still don't know how I would react if something like this swims in my direction. When I see him, I was almost out of the water, so that was fine.

  5. Definitely gorgeous! I love the palette as a piece of collection, and would love to own it just for the packaging! however the practical woman in me tells me I don't really need this palette it is not versatile enough to be carried on travels because as you said it lacks a lighter base colour. So I will give it a pass.

    1. This is the main reason why I am a little torn about this palette. It is not for travel because it is more of an evening look palette. I don't know how many people have big enough evening bags to fit something like this for a night out. It is a little confusing.

  7. Definitely glamorous! But I can see that the glitter wouldn't be for everyone. Looks very pretty on you, though! xo

    1. Hi Jen,
yes you have to love glitter to like this one!

  8. The palette is gorgeous! however, I'm not very fond of having my lipstick in the same tier as my eyeshadow, they should have made a space for it underneath instead. Come to think of it though, I don't much like lipsticks that call for a brush or dab of a finger. Going to go back to stare at the pic on your instagram now.

    1. I hear you. I am also not a fan of flat lipstick things. Why that when bullets are invented long time ago? I love applying directly from a bullet, it is easier and better for touchups.

  9. Oh I like the 3D effect in the last photo, Sara! I must try that! :D

You're right to point out that it lacks the base shade, but this palette is all about glam factor to me. Having a plain base color wouldn't go really well with theme of the palette in my opinion. I was hoping you were going to give me a conclusive answer to my question of whether I should buy the palette, but now I'm still undecided. LOL. I mean, it's so cool but is it worth the price?! Le sigh!

Seeing the seal up close must have been such a great experience! Hope you'll be able to share some pix with us when you get back! :D

    1. Dear Jaa,
seal went away so fast after seeing me staring at him. Too bad that I had to camera with me but some other people had seen it, so that proves I am not going crazy ;-)
I am pondering about this palette, you are right about the glam factor. I think the question boils down to, if you want something so glamorous in your life, if yeah, then go and pick it up.
Oh and the packaging is so gorgeous, I can't imagine the photos you make of this one *swoon*

  10. Love it!! I passed on this palette because I felt a lot of Givenchy's recently palettes were similarly purple themed. The gunmetal shade is my favourite, and it was the shade that made it a tough decision to say no to this palette.

    1. Oh that Gunmetal shade is absolutely gorgeous, but again I didn't know because it is not opaque enough on its own. It is like having a great top coat and two top coats for two nails polishes are too much? Don't know if that makes sense, lol.

  11. This palette with all its shimmer and glitter virtually screams "Party time!" and so it doesn't bother me in the least that it doesn't have a base shade. Like many readers, I've already got plenty of those in my stash. If I were to buy this palette, it would be for the fun colors :-) What I have a problem with is the lipstick being a part of the palette. I never touch up my eye makeup when I go out whereas I have to freshen my lipstick several times. I simply wouldn't want to devote the space in my evening bag to this sizable palette when simply carrying a lipstick would be easier. I'm not anti combination palette and actually have some beautiful combination palettes like Edward Bess' Back to Basics. I use them for travel; however, and not an evening out.

    1. Hi Eileen,
again another great analysis. There is a confusion about where this beauty should be used. If it would be for travel, then it should have less glamour (then maybe another satin shade). But for an evening out, it is a little too bulky and lipstick is hard to reapply. I should definitely try EB Back to Basics, thanks for reminding me of that one.
