Caught in Action: Tom Ford Cream Color in Spice, MAC Mineralize Rich Lipstick in Touch the Earth (from Lightness of Being), Review, Swatch & Comparison

I hope you are all having a great weekend. The christmas markets are opened here. A lovely time of the year. It is all illuminated, smelling of hot wine punch and spices. Yesterday it was a little bit of a surprise though to find out that it closes at 9pm already, even on the weekend. Maybe it was better though because the second glass of hot wine never does me any good.

Today I have two products and one look. One of them is from Tom Ford Holiday Collection. I have reviewed all the pieces I picked up but I didn't have the opportunity to talk about Spice, one of the two repromoted cream eye shadow. You can read my review about the other one, Platinum, here.

The second product I would like to show you in action is one of the Mineralized Rick Lipsticks of MAC, which will be released with their Lightness of Being Collection in January. It is an interesting earthy tone, called Touch The Earth

Tom Ford Cream Color in Spice

Let me start with Tom Ford Spice. I have already talked about how much I like the texture of these. They apply and blend easily and beautifully, stay long on the lids. I like a mid-toned and deeper tones on my lids and I am obsessed about bronze shades so Spice was a must have for me. I have to admit, I like it even more than Platinum. Spice has a little more "gold" inside once compared to my other Bronze cream colors, such as Max Factor Bronze (reviewed here), Charlotte Tilbury Bronzed Garnet (reviewed here) and Laura Mercier Burnished Bronze. I believe the gold inside Spice makes it especially gorgeous for blue eyes but it would look good on almost anyone.

Tom Ford Cream Color in Spice comparison to Max Factor, Charlotte Tilbury and Laura Mercier

Below I am wearing only Spice on the eye lid, applied a flat cream eye shadow and with blendeded over the crease with a clean fluffy brush. I have been wearing this most of the mornings when I don't have much time to get prepared. Once I even ended up getting compliments for this super easy eye look. Below I also wear Giorgio Armani Eye & Brow #6 Copal on the brows (reviewed here) and Lancome Grandiose Mascara on the lashes.

In-Action: Tom Ford Cream Color in Spice

To make this post a little more exciting, here is a sneak peek of a lipstick which will be available soon in the States and in January in Europe (promos). MAC Mineralize Rich Lipstick formula is very hydrating and feels nice on the lips. It is not very long lasting though. This particular shade is rather sheer with luminosity but it is not frosty.

MAC Mineralize Rich Lipstick in Touch the Earth from Lightness of Being Collection

MAC Touch the Earth looks like a sheer brown on its own but once swatched against a browner shade, you can see the hint of coolness in there, which makes it a taupe. All in all this shade is not too warm nor too cool. It is an interesting color for Spring. I have swatched all the lipsticks at the MAC Counter to find a similar one. From their regular line-up MAC Lipstick in Fresh Brew came the closest, although it is not a Mineralize Lipstick. At their Mineralize line, I didn't find anything which is even remotely close.

MAC Mineralize Rich Lipstick in Touch the Earth (limited) vs. MAC Lipstick in Fresh Brew (permanent)

Here is the look in context, with Tom Ford Spice on the eyes and MAC Touch the Earth on lips. I have also combined them with Burberry Earthy (reviewed here) on the cheeks which is another taupe gorgeousness. How do you find it with Earth tones on the lips and cheeks, is it weird or does it somehow look fine to you?

Final thoughts: Tom Ford Cream Color in Spice is right now my obsession, great for an easy swipe and go kind of morning. Please Tom Ford, make them permanent, oh and also please more shades in there! As far as MAC Mineralize Rich Lipstick in Touch the Earth goes, the formula is great, very hydrating, casual, can be worn without lipliner, doesn't have to be applied with lip brush, read casual and great for on the go. It doesn't wear very long though. The shade might not be for everyone. I myself have to get used to it. I am open for interesting MAC Lipsticks though.

Oh have you watched this lady trying to create MAC Lipsticks from crayons? She gave me a good laugh! I sometimes think she has a point though ;-)

    1. Vielen Dank Melanie. Der Lippenstift passt nicht mit alle Töne, daher hier mit Braun kombiniert ;-)

  2. I noticed that Spice is even creamier than Platinum, but for the same reason, I find that I have less control over the application of it. Do you use your finger, or a brush?

    1. Hi Andrea. I observed the same, this is why they are all a little moved in the jar, almost none of Spice come in good condition. I use a brush with this one, it is easier to apply that way. I use a cream eye shadow brush, then blend the corners with a clean fluffy brush.

  3. Wow that lipstick is so brown... Don't think I'll be giving it a go, but it looks interesting for sure! I'd like to see your holiday collection picks. Actually I'd like to eventually read about all the posts you suggested, but this one would have to be timely!

    1. LOL, yes it is kind of taupe, like an eye shadow... Thanks for your feedback, holiday top ten post is coming next :-*

  4. Like Andrea, I find Spice needs more careful application (i.e. I have to use a couple of brushes instead of swiping on with fingers!). I still love it, and it's not exactly hard to apply, but for an absolutely lazy polished eye look, I prefer Platinum. I love earthy tones. Can't wait for those lipsticks. Susan, London

    1. Hi Susan,
Touch the Earth is tricky to combine but it is a nice earthy shade. I agree with you both on the consistency of Spice, also it is a darker color so needs more careful application.

  6. hi sara! i love 'bronzey" shades on the eye! it looks lovely on you. i was only able to get platinum. i'm not sure if i liked it on me though. my favorites were new moon and moon river from chanel and, i thought it would be similar but it didn't have the same "effect" on me. as for brown tone lippies....not sure, but i don't like them on me. i have brown and gold in my hair so, i thought i'd like it for sure but, i didn't. maybe i'm not finding the right "undertones"? ooooh....new posts!!! can you post them all?! i've been reading your post about wayne goss' brushes now. i'm in need of brushes but, just a few. hakuhodo and suquu are what i want. i'd have to order them and i'm having trouble navigating the websites. it would make me feel alot better if i could call the company and know, if i had to, they have a good return policy without lots of stress and work returning them. with that, what blush brush would you suggest...wayne goss or chanel's? i primarily use chanel blush. what bothers me is that their blush brush is made in china. does this concern you? should it concern me? my concern is quality for the money and, 1 that will last and i will take care of it properly. and then i heard tom ford and charlotte tilbury which makes me confused more. i love any and all of your posts. of course my all time favorite is your best of the year posts! xoxo wendy.

    1. Hi Wendy,
I think as you also wrote, undertones are very important. This one has very warm almost orangey undertones. Maybe this clashes in a way. I know that Hakuhodo is very hard to choose from but they are all so fabulous. They also have a set called Misty set, I can recommend you that. I have it and loving it. I wouldn't invest on Charlotte Tilbury brushes, they are not at the same quality as Hakus. I am also not that fan of my Chanel brushes. I would say go with Haku Misty set...

  8. A favourites post would be wonderful. This looks great on you, very polished. For some reason I can't bring myself to wear a brown lipstick even though I have yellow undertones. Because of my eye shape I tend to do my make up as you just have and that sort of color always gets compliments, it just appeals to a lot of people and especially to women who are not very confident with eyeshadow themselves and when they see it they are kind of thinking 'that's what I want it to look like on me'. 1. Favorites post will be up tomorrow. I think browns are tricky to pull off, also they have many undertones so it ia hard to say all browns are fine. Some browns look terrible on me, especially dark browns, yuck! lol. Just try and see ;-)

  9. I like this look on you but I personally could not wear the eye look, though I could probably pull off the lipstick. I need to do cool eyes and warm lips. I would love to hear your thoughts on the Suqqu trios-- as well as the Chikuhodo Z brushes and how you use them-- in terms of priority though all the posts sound great. And I am also curious what TFs you got from the recent release though they may not have gotten to you yet. I ordered one of the brownish ones and held back on another.

    1. Hi Alison,
I had ordered 7 boys, all strange shades, like Stravros and a few purples and vamps. I hope to get them next week. I am also very confused about the names lol, can't remember any of them. how can Tom remember all? ;-)

  10. You look so sophisticated, Sara. I cant imagine others pulling off this kind of look as perfectly and stunningly as you did. Especially brown lips! It didn't age you one bit. I am now more tempted to get Burberry Earthy more than ever!

    1. Thanks! I like wearing bronze a lot, hence I have many products to compare Spice to ;-)
This one lippie is sheer really, it is easier to pull off for me too since my lip color shows through a little.

  16. A taupe lipstick? Well, that's new! You seem to be able to wear this type of shade so well, Sara! I don't think I have ever seen anything that does not look good on you! What's your secret?!!! If I were to wear Touch the Earth, I'd look either dead or really sick and close to dead. LOL.

I vote for the Cle de Peau Foundation, Concealer and Base! :D
