Tom Ford Cream Color For Eyes Spring 2015, Review, Swatch, Comparison & FOTD

It is sunny, it is warm and it is Friday! Can you tell that I am super content? Although I know tomorrow it is going to rain hmpf...

While everyone was waiting for Eye Shadow Duos to be released, Tom Ford sneakily launched their Spring 2015 Runway look in some countries as a separate capsule collection. I spotted a new cream eye shadow at Selfridges two weeks ago. I was confused since there were no news of that one coming. I am a big fan of Tom Ford Cream Eye Color formula and I didn't want to miss the chance of a new color. I am still regretting not getting Illicit *cries*. Thanks to a dear friend I got my hands on one of the cream eye shadow, which has no other name but called "Spring 2015". Today I have some swatches, comparisons and in-action photos for you, let's get rolling!

Tom Ford Cream Color For Eyes, my collection

Tom Ford Cream Color For Eyes in Spring 2015 is a chameleon, it looks different under different light and on different complexions. I would describe it as very deep cool brown taupe with sparse silver and golden sparkle. The way golden sparkles reflect light sometimes make the shade look like a very deep khaki green. You know I am not a fan of khaki on my eyes because it blends with my hair and eyes but this one is not that warm so I am happy with how it turns on me.

When I posted about this in Instagram a few days ago, some of you asked how the formula is. I have reviewed some of these eye shadows (here, here and here) before. It is a moussy formula which doesn't have the bouncy feeling of Chanel Illusion d'Ombres, it feels more like a cream and it is much more pigmented and dense. It can be build up or can be used sheer and it wear like iron all day without fading, smudging and budging. It is my favorite cream eye shadow formula to date.

The new shade is very pigmented. With just the slightest amount, you can get all your lid space covered. It is also a deeper color compared to my other Tom Ford cream eye shadows. That means it requires more careful application. I like building up slowly. If you put too much, you may end up with a black eye. I like applying this one with my ring finger in the middle of the lid and blend outwards.

Below I have Tom Ford Cream Color For Eyes Spring 2015 all over the lid, blended it with a clean fluffy brush over the crease. I have then applied MAC Nylon on the inner corner. This rock'n roll look calls for a black kohl so I completed it with Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Perversion along the lash line and on water line. I smudged this a little to blend with the cream eye shadow.

Now here is the complete look. I went for understated blush and nude lips. Below I am wearing MAC Blush Ombre in Kindergarten Red on the cheeks and MAC Lipstick in Oxblood, both from Toledo Collection.

FOTD: Tom Ford Cream Color For Eyes Spring 2015

I compared it with a few other smokey cream eye loves of mine. I was especially wondering if Max Factor #30 Onxy would be a dupe because if it was, it would have been one of the rare cases that dupe going to the market before the product *winks*. I have shared my thoughts about Max Factor Excess Shimmer formula and its resemblance to Tom Ford Cream Color for Eyes here. Two of the five shades are also suspiciously close to Tom Ford ones. #30 Onyx is more sparkly and black and it is different. One of my all time favorite swipe and go smoky eye color, Benefit Creaseless Cream in Skinny Jeans (mentioned here) is less pigmented, more metallic and cooler. Chanel Illusion d'Ombre #85 Mirifique has more sparkles and it is more black. I have also included Laura Mercier Caviar Stick in Smoky, which I like using as a black base for some of the looks with color technique, that one has no shimmer but it is deeper and more black.

Also check out Silverkis' review. She reports on her more challenging eye area (oily lids) this product doesn't stay so well.

Final thoughts: Three words only, love love love! Tom Ford Cream Color For Eyes Spring 2015 was spot on for me, exactly my type of shade, deep, defining, not too shimmery, not boring and very complex.

Availability: This is now available in the states and in UK. I have asked Germany PR and have good news for those of you who are determined to hunt it in Germany, it will be available in KaDeWe and Breuninger exclusively.

What is your favorite smokey color for eyes?

  1. Oh so exciting! The shade is a tad too dark for me, but it looks great on you! I'm so thrilled that you got Spice for me! Can't wait for it to arrive!

  2. Sounds awesome and thanks for the comparison swatches as always! If it wasn't for that cream product ban I put myself on, I would have caved.

  3. OOO interesting shade indeed! I haven't bought a cream shadow for a long time. I guess I have grown to prefer eyeshadow sticks in general (the GA Eye Tint has an applicator so I guess that is an exception). This is a really beautiful shade on you tho! Can't say I haven't been tempted by his cream eyeshadows a couple of times :)

  5. Omg omg omg! Omg:) I will skip kohl/liner and just smudge a bit with my finger as a super quick smoky eyes look. Love the hint of green, mirifique as a color was too harsh to be used this way.

  7. It looks good on you. I'm finding it creases on me a little which I have never really experienced with the others. Maybe because of using so little due to the colour intensity. Thanks for the mention! Susan, London

  8. Hello Sara,

I just came from Cafemakeup's blogroll. Great site and amazing color. I have Tom Ford Platinum and I must say, his cream shadows are quite exquisite. Whenever I wear Platinum, inevitably someone always asks what shade it is. This deep bronzy khaki color looks lovely on you and I certainly would not hesitate for a moment to wear it full-on. Thanks for sharing.

  9. I ordered this and can't wait for it to come! My first Tom Ford Cream Shadow. Thanks for the comparison swatches. I already have Benefit Skinny Jeans and Laura Mercier Caviar Stick in Khaki and was worried it looked too similar but no. Love your eye look -- gorgeous and dramatic!

  10. Hi Maria,
    Isn't Amy's blog wonderful, I am a huge fan of her's.
Platinum is really pretty, I can usually not wear khakis all that well but this one has enough brown/taupe in that so it works. Hope you like yours as well.

  11. Hi Jane,
yes I also feel the same way for Mirifique. As much as I like it, I never reach for it. You can skip the kohl liner and go for a more natural day time look. I thought rock'n'roll calls for the kohl lol.

  13. Hi Sunny,
I was so into sticks but all at once I grew tired of them. I don't know what is happening lol. I actually like Chanel Illusion d'Ombre and Tom Ford Cream Colors more than sticks but I understand sticks are easier to apply, quicker to get on and blend so yes you have a point there ;-)

  16. Heehee....it is indeed so super pigmented!!! I confidently dipped in my finger and swiped it over the lid the way I do with Illusion D'Ombres and there was black EVERYWHERE!!!!! I had to start over, take a nano amount pat it onto the lid and blend it with a brush!!! Definitely more work than my usual cream eyeshadows/sticks but worth it!

  17. Hi Sara, i'm glad this one worked well for you. TBH, this is my least fav TF Cream shadow to date. It just doesnt wear well for me at all. So i'm still experimenting....

  19. Sarah, I got my order and love it! It's pricey, but no regrets It's such a complex mix of bronze, pewter, black, brown, with some shimmer. He really nailed the color down. And it looks different in different lights. I like how you can sheer it down or go more dramatic.
