Suqqu Eye Color Palette Ex-01 Benikakesora for Summer 2015, Review, Swatch & FOTD

I hope you all had a great weekend. Our flat needed a good cleaning, which took us all day (with help that is!). It was such a sunny day which was calling for some swatches or a nice day out at the park but what had to be done had to be done. I am hoping the weather will go on like this. We have a three day week next week. Also hubby has birthday on Thursday, falling on a bank holiday this year.

I have previously raved about Suqqu Summer Collection and reviewed one of the trios, Suqqu Eye Color Palette Ex-02 Yosaizora. I have been wearing Yasoizora constantly since then. It gives me such a lovely polished look which is noticeable (not nude but natural). When I swatched the other trio called Ex-01 Benikakesora in Tokyo, I gasped with excitement. The middle shade is really very pretty, especially under store light. The inspiration behind Benikakesora is the red sky when the sun sets. I wore it yesterday for a dinner date to our favorite Japanese restaurant. Today I would like to share my thoughts and yesterday's FOTD with you.

Suqqu Eye Color Palette Ex-01 Benikakesora

For those who are not familiar to Suqqu Eye Shadow line, currently they come in two different sizes. Suqqu Blend Color Palettes (quads) have four eye shades and Suqqu Eye Color Palettes (trios) consist of three shades. Trios were released just last year and currently there are three offerings in permanent line. The products which start with "Ex" are always limited edition. This summer two limited trios are being released, today I would like to present you Ex-01 Benikakesora.

Suqqu Eye Color Palette Ex-01 Benikakesora comes in a sleek white case and has a tiny brush. The brush has sponge on one end and a brush with natural bristles to blend on the other. It has 2.6 g of product and it is made in Japan.

Similar to Yosaizora, the shades in Suqqu Eye Color Palette Ex-01 Benikakesora have great color pay-off. You can sheer them out for a wash of color or build them up easily with a layering brush if you would like intensity. I can see Benikakesora working also for deeper complexions. Shades are as follows:

Left (A): A deep plum with satin finish. The consistency of this shade is a little drier than the middle shade, which I really appreciate because you can use it as a liner and on the crease with more control. I apply this shade on the outer corner too, which looks lovely blended with shade B.

Middle (B): A mid-toned peach with golden shimmer. This shade is breath takingly beautiful. On a rush-day you can just dust it over your eyes and you are done! I love using it as an over all color but if you go for a plum smoky with shade A, you can use B to blend over the crease.

Right (C): A very light shimmery white. This is a great shade to add a soft shimmer on any of the other shades as well as to use under brow bone and on the inner corner. I like using C on the inner corner and blend to the one third for a gradual effect.

Here are some more swatches to show you the shades once the colors are combined. Suqqu shades layer so beautifully. C can be used with A or B to bring some shimmer in play but A and B can also be layered for a lovely complex shade as seen below. I don't really know how to define the resulting shade, maybe you can help me.

Layered Swatches: Suqqu Eye Color Palette Ex-01 Benikakesora

Here is a simple eye look using Suqqu Eye Color Palette Ex-01 Benikakesora. Deep plum (A) on the crease and outer corner, peach (B) all over the lid and white (C) on the inner corner, blending one third into the peach. I also dusted a little bit of white under the brow bone for a subtle highlight.

Here is the finished look with Suqqu Eye Color Palette Ex-01 Benikakesora on the eyes,  Suqqu Balancing Cheeks #01 Momoshuiro (reviewed here) and #03 Yawakohaku (reviewed here) as well as Suqqu Lighting Liquid (mentioned here) on the cheeks. I am wearing Clinique Pop Lip Color in Melon Pop on the lips (review coming up soon). Suqqu Eye Color Palette Ex-01 Benikakesora blends to perfection without me trying (you know I am not master of blending lol) although the shades are so different than one another. It must be because they also layer so beautifully.

FOTD: Suqqu Eye Color Palette Ex-01 Benikakesora

Here is once more the finished look. You see it is not dramatic, very wearable but certainly the eye shadows are there and they show themselves. It is exactly how I like it. Well done Suqqu, I am so in love.

FOTD: Suqqu Eye Color Palette Ex-01 Benikakesora

I was wondering how the peach shade in Suqqu Eye Color Palette Ex-01 Benikakesora compared to Suqqu Blend Color #18 Sakuraori (reviewed here). As you see they are very different. I also checked for a similar plum in my quads but couldn't find something close. Here is a comparison with #16 Hanashoubu (reviewed here) which is cooler and more of a purple than a plum.

Comparison swatches: Suqqu Eye Color Palette Ex-01 Benikakesora

Final thoughts: Suqqu Eye Color Palette Ex-01 Benikakesora is a lovely warm palette which offers an unusual harmony of a complex peach and a beautiful plum. It is a pleasure to apply the shadow as they almost self blend but still not over-blend or get-muddy. Suqqu eye shadow formula is one of my favorites and this year's summer collection is the formula as its best. Don't miss them.

Availability/Price: Suqqu Summer Collection will be released on the 14th of May. You can order it from Selfridges' website or check it out in-store at Fenwick of Bond Street, Harrods and Selfridges. Suqqu Eye Color Palettes cost 35 GBP each. The summer trios as also available at Ichibankao at the moment (not affiliated).

How do you find the color combination? Do you have a palette with similar theme?

  1. Oh this is preeetty! We need to clean as well, but that just got postponed to this weekend. Can't believe we're getting SUCH a long one, although if work comes up I'll most probably still have to finish it. The life of a freelancer :)

Anyways, what an interesting trio! I think pink and purple is a common combination, but such a peachy shade and purple together are kinda rare! Love the look you put together!

  7. I wish this kind of colour palette would look as good on me as it does on you! This is such a flattering combo on your eyes it's like this Suqqu trio was made for you! I'd personally love this more if the darker shade was a matte. Enjoy your long weekend!

  9. This is a beautiful trio...I love how unique but wearable they are! Not regular neutrals but something I could see myself wearing to work. I wish Suqqu was more accessible in North America.

  10. Hi Jess,
yes I wished Suqqu would be more accessible elsewhere too. Did you know, they are rather a young brand, so maybe one day you will have a counter close by too. Ichibankao has now the summer collection and Selfridges online will get it this Thursday.

  11. Hi Katherine. The good thing about this formula is that, they blend beautifully but they don't blend to nothing. Some eye shadow formulas appear muddy or blend to one color (YSL anyone?) but this one is very easy to work with. You see I like Suqqu ;-)

  12. Hi Silke,
The deepest shade is almost matte, has a bit of a satin touch which you can't see on the eyes but just on the swatches. To me it is matte enough ;-)) Yes I am loving it, very pretty combination! Thanks :-*

  13. LOL Eleni, yes this oen is really pretty #16 too (and #16 is permanent so you can grab it anytime you want). I can have hundreds of eye shadows without problem ;-P
PS: I am so happy ours is finished lol, I know how it is like to get something postponed. Our helper canceled two times and it was not fun :-(

  18. Hi Sunny,
it is interesting to hear how the life of a freelancer is. It sounds to be everything one would like with minor glitches here and there ;-)

Yes peach purple is a little less common than pink purple. Especially this peach is so beautiful. Thanks :-*

  26. That Liquid Highlighter is everything. They also have a brightening base. I will review them both together soon. Yes that Highlighter Liquid gives a lovely glow and doesn't emphasize anything bad, so magical. Enjoy yours!

  27. I am also looking at the Nars Christopher Kane shade in Outer Limits but it is getting such mixed reviews - rave v. write-off - that I feel I have to go and test at the counter and no shopping time at the moment. S

  28. Hi, Frond!!! Hope you are having a lovely day!!! Normally I wouldn't go for these colors, but after seeing your FOTD and how they layer together...oooooh, goodness...so gorgeous!!! Love!!! xo

  29. Love peach with violet! Similar (but not identical) combination can be found in Shiseido beach grass, Estee Lauder Beach Metals, Chanel Spices, and D&G Nude quad. Or by combining Chanel Envol with Ebloui and Dior Lune :)
