Estée Lauder Pure Color Envy Matte Lipstick in Restless for Kendall Jenner, Review, Swatch, Comparison & FOTD

It is almost weekend, how exciting! How was your week? On this side of the monitor everything is moving super fast, my early termination of the contract is approved by the human resources department. I will be taking a little more than 3 weeks of holiday in the beginning of August. I plan to use it fully as a beach holiday. On the first of September I will start the new job, which I will tell you very soon. Waiting for the contract ;-)

There is a brand new cheerful lipstick release which is flying off the shelves. In Germany it is online exclusive and currently looks like it is sold out in less than a couple of days. Our post was on strike so the package arrived me later than expected. I hope it can still be purchased elsewhere.  Estée Lauder Pure Color Envy Matte Lipstick in Restless is designed for the muse of Estée Lauder, Kendall Jenner. It looks fabulous on her medium complexion with warm undertones. Here is a quick review and a few comparison swatches in case you are eyeing it.

Estée Lauder Pure Color Envy Matte Lipstick in Restless

Estée Lauder Pure Color Envy Matte Lipstick in Restless comes in a similar package to Pure Color Envy Sculpting lipsticks. On the cap they inserted the signature of Kendall Jenner, which is a cute nifty detail. The case doesn't look lacquered like the regular Envy Sculpting line packaging but it looks matt. This matches to the finish of the lipstick. It also makes me excited for a possible matte lipstick line to be released. I love love matte lippies and Estée Lauder lipstick formula so if they come up with more colors, I am all in!!

Estée Lauder Pure Color Envy Matte Lipstick in Restless

I pulled out some similar shades from my stash to give you an idea how these compare and where in spectrum of lippies Restless places itself. I would call Restless an orange red with neutral undertones. Some have said that it is a dupe of MAC Morange (reviewed here), which is not the case. Here I swatched them side by side for you to see. MAC Morange is warmer, also the formula is very different. You can see that Restless almost looks velvety on my skin, it is more matte than Morange. MAC Burmese Kiss is cooler, Laura Mercier Sweet Guava (review) is cooler and glossier. MAC Strange Journey has a close finish to Restless but it is much deeper and rustier. All in all I didn't find anything close to Estée Lauder Restless.

Although Restless is not a shade I will usually go for, but it works on me with a coral blush and minimal eye make-up. Being matte also helps making it more wearable for me. Those with warmer undertones will love this shade for the summer. The best thing about Restless is the formula. It is matte but it glides on like butter. It didn't dry out my lips either. Restless is also very pigmented. With just the tiniest amount on your brush, you can cover your lips.

Now here is my bad hair day don't care FOTD. I combined Restless with Tom Ford Flush on the cheeks. Right now I am loving blue-white-orange trios for summer. On my eyes I am wearing Tom Ford Nude Dip which recently became permanent, yay.

Check out the reviews of Karen, Sunny, Isabella and Ree to see how it looks on different complexions.

Final thoughts:All in all the formula of Restless is to die for. If you are in the market for a hot warm red for this summer, act quick.

Do you wear orange/reds? How do you combine them? Orange blush? Bronzer? Please share your tips and tricks with me.

  1. What a fantastic look on you! The blue and white lend a refreshing summer crispness to the heat of that red-orange. Sometimes I think it would be nice to be a BIT less pale... :)

  2. Almost forgot to mention my own favorite tricks with orange. I also like them with blue, like you, although with my coloring I tend to choose lighter or turquoise blues.

The other thing is that sometimes purple/pink tones overwhelm me, so if I have on purple eye makeup (which I do love), my lip and cheek colors are coral/orange/warm neutral. The contrast works better for me!

  4. I really admire how you can support various colors on lips! I want to test the matte formula by Estee Lauder and though i am always hesitant to anything orange, lately i've purchased Morange mainly for the Wash and Dry packaging and Charlotte Tilbury 1975 Red which i would like to compare with Restless because i have the impression that they are very close! :)

  5. Well I was thinking it was close to 999, Diego, and D + G Venere, all of which I have, and of course had to get it anyway. Waiting for it to arrive. (Taps foot.) And yes, orange blush. I like Chanel creme one and the Sisley yellow orange-one. On the eyes, I could go neutral-warm-- Nude Dip or the Shu Palette. Or gold or ivory with black liner.

  6. Looks great on you, Sara! I personally don't do anything special - peach blush and bright dark green eyeliner, or even a bit malachite color eyeshadow mixed with peach/orange eyeshadow. Without some intense dark green accent on my eyes bright orange lipsticks don't look good on me. If it is a cooler orange shade, a very dark blue liner/accent can also help the situation. Maybe because orange is a very unnatural color for me, so I need another strong unnatural color to balance it.

  11. Hahaha Alison, if you love orange lippies, you will adore this one. The formula is seriously out of this world. I need that Sisley blush, like now! Which Shu Palette? The new huge one. I was not sure about that one so skipped it. Would you recommend it?

  12. Hi Jane,
thanks, yes I will take this one with me to holidays :-) I am actually no where close to relaxed lol but I am trying. I am going for a big change in terms of job and it makes me a little nervous. Blue dark liner, I have to try it out because I love orange blue combination!
Yes too much bronzer is bad with orange lippie, also on me.

  13. Hi Hara,
oh, lol I am not sure if they look ok but I am trying. First I was shying away but then I found out it is about the combination. Morange is really a pretty shade, fits so well with the blush Freshen Up from the collection which I use mainly to make orange lips work on me. I don't have the CT one. Do you order CT from their webpage?

  15. Oooh Sunny, thanks so much to remind me of that great tutorial. I watched it again after you mentioned it.
Three weeks will be great. I can't wait! But when I think about everything I have to finish before I finish it here I have to hyperventilate.

  16. Oh I have yet to try purple and orange combination. Actually when I was doing the make-up, for a moment I thought about it. Purple and red also looks pretty but it would be too much for work. Maybe I try it out for a night out and let you know :-) Thanks for the suggestion.

  17. Of course it makes you nervous, Sara, it is stressful. Even more so, if you move to something new. It takes me about 4-6 month to get fully comfortable and autonomous in a new environment (and for the male office population to finally stop staring at me). I changed 4 jobs in the last 6 years, including different countries, cities and industries. Everything is (luckily) temporary :)
I hope that your new role will be great and you will enjoy it. But if you notice that something is not exactly as you expected, please don't waste your time and energy, trust your first intuition and start looking for another job right away. It may sound counterintuitive as everyone usually tries to positively impress on a new place, but I now rather focus on how I feel. If something wrong, the sooner you switch, the less damage for your career - during the trial period, you can leave almost immediately with a clean cut - never having to show this job on your CV, to explain to recruiters why you left or showing a weird work certificate written by an unprofessional former boss. It never hurts to have a plan B, also helps to feel less nervous :)

  18. Looks so good on you, Sara. And yes, when it comes to orange red lipsticks, I always pair it with warmer blushes. I experimented with pink blushes before, and it clashed like crazy. I had to put bronzer over the blush to warm it up, and so that I wouldn't look so weird. LOL!

  19. I purchased Morange along with Freshen Up but I don't want to touch it!! Haha!!!I was ready to purchase CT from the official site but then there was the exclusive gift set at Selfridges with the things I liked more from the collection so I caved in and bought the set with cream bronze and glow, highlighter and cheek and lip plus Miss Kensigton lipstick plus 1975 red.these are my very first CT purchase and I really want to try out more this brand!! :)

  20. It's the new huge one, yes. I love it and feel it is under-rated. But I am very pale neutral toned so it may not be right for everyone. I returned the ByTerry Nudes, I returned the Laura Mercier Artists, and I wound up with this one. Granted I am wearing it in summer when I am more warm toned than I am most of the year, but I love it. I have almost no warm toned e/s, apart from ivory, golds and greens, and I am wearing it a few times a week. There are really great, subtle neutrals, that are a tad cooler than I usually find, it has just the right cool colors, and some gorgeous bronzy shades. Even the browns, which are my "don't go there" colors work. I can't explain it, Sara. Maybe you can.

  21. Hello Sara,

The thought of a matte formula in the Color Envy Line would be great. Sadly, this color is too warm/orange for my liking, but it looks totally fierce on you.
I've read Lauder is manufacturing liquid lipsticks, similar to Shiseido Lacquer Rouge. I can't wait to see what the company whips up now that they have gone for a more youthful demographic.
