Chanel Eyeshadow Palette in Entrelacs & Chanel Joues Contraste #260 Alezane, Review, Swatch & FOTD

Since I am coming to the end of the photos I have taken prior to my holiday, today I went out to shoot for upcoming posts. I have to say that melting lipsticks and a big head ache after working under noon sun was really no fun. Although it is only 30° C here, under the sun an egg would cook in an instant. I am using this opportunity to test lots of sun care products. I will post about my experience soon. PR take note, for next year I need some mosquito repelling products to test as well. As I am writing these lines on the terrace, my feet are being attacked under the table, grrr.

Today is my last post on Chanel Fall 2015 in which I talk about two of the products I haven't reviewed in detail. I know that I will pick up the red Chanel Rouge Coco Shine (Téméraire) once the collection releases in October in Germany. Other than that I am mostly happy with what I picked up, that is minus the eye shadow palette which I would like to write about today, Chanel Eyeshadow Palette in Entrelacs. I also have some comparison swatches of Chanel Joues Contraste #260 Alezane right after the jump.

Chanel Eyeshadow Palette in Entrelacs

Should I start raving about the design? The embossment on the powder is so gorgeous. This is probably why this palette made it to most of us's wish list. It is also consist of naturals, who doesn't like naturals? The reason why I ended up ordering though is the copper shade in the middle. I love me a nice copper and it was looking so pretty. I must have forgotten though that Chanel 5-Pan Palettes are considerably more expensive in the States than they are in Europe. I should have waited to swatch but October was so late.

Sine I lovce new formulation of Chanel Les 4 Ombres, I forget how I didn't like the 5-pan palettes in the past.  I was not fond of Chanel Les 5 Ombres Oiseaux de Nuit Eye Shadow Palette (reviewed here) nor did I really like L'Intemporel de Chanel. The latter I never came to review not only because it was released very late in Germany but also because it was not so inspirational. I still remember how much I liked Charming Eye Shadow Palette (reviewed here) from Christmas 2013 so I was hoping for a quality similar to it.

Chanel Eyeshadow Palette in Entrelacs

But the moment I swatched Entrelacs, I was a little disappointed. The shades in the middle perform nicely but the shades on the left most and right most underperformed. I was hoping that the reason would be the preserving spray to keep the design intact but I used it already a couple of times and it didn't get better. Those two also need to be applied with fingers to show up on the lids since with the brush the color pay-off is too soft. The middle shade looks so gorgeous in the pan and on the swatches but on my eye lids the lustre is pretty much gone. The second shade from the left is a great matte shade to work on the crease and the second shade from the right is also very useful to build the intensity up. These two were the best performers. Chanel Eyeshadow Palette in Entrelacs unfortunately doesn't have the color pay-off of Charming.

Swatch: Chanel Eyeshadow Palette in Entrelacs

Before I go onto two of the looks I did with Entrelacs, I would like to show you some comparison swatches of Joues Contraste #260 Alezane which were asked in the swatches post. Alezane is one of my favorite products in this collection together with Chanel Les 4 Ombres #254 Tissé D'Automne and Stylo Yeux Waterproof #918 Ardent. Chanel's Joues Contraste not only has a superb formula but there also come in very unique shades. Alezane is warmer than #80 Jersey (reviewed here), deeper, less shimmery and warmer than #84 Accent (reviewed here). Canaille, a stunning blush which never worked on me, is deeper and warmer. Evocation is close but a little warmer.

To start with, I would like to show you how Chanel Eyeshadow Palette in Entrelacs look on its own. The result reminds me of Tissé Mademoiselle (reviewed here) but even softer than that. I put the second shade from left on the crease, deepened it with deeper brown (second from right), the copper (middle) on the lid and added a bit of gold with my finger on the inner lid. It turned out to be a nice super nude/ neutral look which would go good with a strong lip or a no make-up day.

Here is the full look with Chanel Joues Contraste #260 Alezane on the cheeks and a discontinued plummy Chanel Rouge Coco (I can't find the name at the moment but I might check it out after I am back home).

FOTD with Chanel Eyeshadow Palette in Entrelacs

For the second look which appeal to me a bit more than the first one, I used Chanel Illusion D'Ombre Rouge Gorge (reviewed here) as a base to Chanel Eyeshadow Palette in Entrelacs. That way the shimmer on the copper shade was more prominent and also it turned out to be more coppery in general.

In-action: Chanel Eyeshadow Palette in Entrelacs over Illusion d'Ombre Rouge-Gorge

Here is the look in context with Chanel Eyeshadow Palette in Entrelacs and Illusion d'Ombre in Rouge-Gorge on the eyes, Suqqu Cheek & Face Color Palette Ex-01 on the cheeks (reviewed here) and a Lancome Shiner Lover #321 on the lips (review coming up soon).

FOTD: Chanel Eyeshadow Palette in Entrelacs over Illusion d'Ombre Rouge-Gorge

Final thoughts: As I like my eye shadows with a good color pay-off, Chanel Eyeshadow Palette in Entrelacs happened to be my least liked product from Les Automnales Collection for Fall 2015. I am loving Chanel Joues Contraste #260 Alezane for the upcoming season but if you have Joues Contrast Evocation, you might find it too similar to warrant a purchase. If you also like your eye shadows more pigmented, I recommend you check out Tissé D'Automne from the same collection, which I am loving so much.

Do you also appreciate soft shades with less color pay-off or do you go for eyeshadows with a good deal of pigmentation?

  1. Hey Sara, thanks for the review and swatches! I think I'll pick up the brush, but the palette is a skip for me. I like the quad much more!

  2. Nice review! I personally like my shadows pigmented enough so I don't have to apply multiple layers. Too much pigment and you'll be blending for hours if you mistakingly put on too much.

  3. Hi Sara, sorry to hear Entrelacs was such a miss for you! I do agree the shades are all softer than the Les 4 Ombres formula, but for some reason this palette has grown to be my daily staple now. It's just easier to wear without having to be precise at all, and quite flattering. I actually love the looks you created here, as always, and even more spectacular with Rouge gorge! And LOLOL at your call for mosquito repellents! Let's see how the haters like that eh?

  4. Oh dear, I so badly wanted this palette but it looks like it'd be better to skip it. I'm not such a huge fan of the quad since it is very very warm. And so is the blush. I think I'll toddle off and purchase Jersey instead.

  5. Hmm...I'm a little torn about this one. On the one hand, it's a pretty expensive palette, and mediocre colour payoff generally isn't my thing. But on the other hand, it's neutral, it's Chanel and I actually really like the eye look you created here. I'm dying to play with this collection in person but my local Chanel SAs have told me they won't be getting it until the end of August!:( I'm constantly torturing mself by looking up swatches!

  6. Melting lipstick, eh..? The things we do for blogging! I guess beautiful sunlit photos come with a price!
I never thought too much about the palette. I feel still attracted to the embossed surface but deep down I know that's what it is about this palette. Plus it is too warm for me.
Having said that, the lightest ivory with gold sheen is quite beautiful! :)

  7. Hmm, I already have a drawer full of neutral Bobbi Brown palettes with low-to-now pigmentation. I like light colors, but scrubbing the pan to get some color is too annoying and time consuming even for me. On the other hand I liked the texture of previous European Chanel eyeshadows more than US and reformulated ones. Need to swatch it, won't do any blind online buying with this one.

  8. I really like how this looks on you, such a shame that you are disappointed a bit with the formula, this was the one thing I was thinking of getting from their Fall collection but might well be a skip, guess more money saved for the Suqqu and Tom Ford collections :)

  9. I like soft shades sometimes too but this palette I will skip. The quad is a must, can't wait! Thanks for the review Sara.

  10. Such a shame this palette was a dud. Such a beautiful design. I'm considering getting the

  11. I think Tissé D'Automne is a much better investment. It is a great one for Fall, make sure to get it then ;-)

  12. Quad is to die for! I can't wait to wear it next season. This palette is a skip, too bad I couldn't skip booh.

  13. Yes aren't you lucky? You had a long Suqqu list and here you go, you can get more of that one.
Honestly I would prefer any Suqqu quad to this one, without an exception.

  14. Hi Jane,
you like softer shades on you, am I right? Then you might like this one too but yes make sure to swatch it so that you know what you are getting for your money. Because of the preserving spray some of the palettes are worse than the others. Mine swatched especially poor I believe although I have seen at Temptalia, hers was not any better. If I have to use my fingers to pick up product (although it is not glitter) there is something seriously wrong with the formula.

  15. Hahaha yes, all photos are beautiful under direct sunlight, whites are pure white but I am not used to so much heat over my head so I had head ache for the rest of the day.
These are not too warm actually, rather neutral I would say but for the price, you can get much better palettes.

  16. Hi Bella,
have you checked the quad. It has some lovely pinks to balance off the warmth and greens are not too warm so on my eyes it was more neutral than warm. Jersey is to die for!

  17. I know, I actually knew sort of while I was getting it. There were people in forums who tried it at the counters and they were writing that the color pay off is extremely soft. Still I got it. Maybe I used the blog as an excuse but even without it I might have splurged. Chanel, neutral, pretty, buy it, buy it! LOL, but then I hate myself for giving so much money to something which doesn't perform. conflict of a beauty addict haha

  18. You will love the blush! Yeah palette is nothing so exciting but I am sure you will love the quad!

  19. I know, in the morning sometimes less pigment is a blessing. But still I think like why did I pay so much money for something which doesn't perform, you know what I mean? If you think it is not a bug, it is a feature, you might enjoy it in the end.

  20. Hi Linda,
yes you are right, fool proof it is, great in the morning but then when it doesn't show on my lids, I get angry and end up spending more time trying to build up the color. It must be what you are used to. I always get the access powder at the back of my hand before the application. If I do that with this palette I end up having nothing on my eyes. Yes Mosquito die! With or without haters haha!

  21. Sara, do you remember the old YSL quints with no pigmentation and as hard as a stone? They were the worst eyeshadow in the world :) nothing will ever beat them, but if this palette is something nearly as bad as old YSL quints, even I will pass :) otherwise, yes, it is sometimes easier to have less pigmented eyeshadow than trying to pick a very tiny bit and then blending it like crazy. My problem is that my eyes don't need any liner or eyeshadow, a bit of mascara perhaps, so having barely some eyeshadow or just mix of light colors is my solution. Having to apply with a finger sounds depressing...

  22. Ha ha...totally #beautyaddictproblems. One the one hand, mediocre performance. On the other hand, Chanel, neutral, limited...OMG MUST BUY IT NOW. :-D

  23. Ha-ha! I had the same reaction and went off and filled in some cool pink JCs, along with a Viseart palette.

  24. Thanks for the review! I am really undecided about this palette, will have to properly have to try it on my lids when r launches here in Tokyo! On one hand I love the design and the story behind it, but if the colors are not showing up, then it really defeats the purpose of getting the palette.. I am lemming for Tissé D'Automne though, and now you've got me interested in the blush.

    ReplyDelete
  25. The blush is really very pretty. Especially goes well with Tissé D'Automne and the bronze liner. I will get the red Rouge Coco Shine as well, waiting for these to launch in Germany. We are said that the collection comes out in October, which is very late. This is how I ended up with Entralacs as it was sight unseen. If I would have swatched it, I wouldn't get it. Thanks for stopping by :-*

  26. The palette reminds me a lot of eyes shadows I have already, but the blush is really pretty !!!

  28. After using it a few times I surprisingly discovered that the eyeshadows became softer and with a better pigmentation on the lid too. Actually, very pigmented. Maybe the surface was just too hard first. It is one of my favorite palettes now and I even ordered a backup. Sometimes a palette really deserves a second chance and some patience.
