Weekend is over, boo! It didn't really feel weekend for me though. I was trying to organize a few things before my last day at work which is tomorrow. Maybe it is time to tell where I am going? I was planning to write a full post on that, which I will probably still do after checking out how it goes this week and next week. During the transition phase it is a bit busy and I want to take my time to reflect upon the things which pushed me away from corporate world. This is a make-up blog after all but I shared so much with you and I am hoping to go on with that.
Now to spill the beans, I got a professor position at a local applied university. Some of you might know that I was teaching as an additional job to my full-time one. I really loved what I was doing. I also felt like I couldn't select the direction my research would go in the company so this looked like a good step to take. As for the blog front, I might be a bit slow at times when I am teaching which will be my priority but I intend to keep on posting. I am hoping at least... I think we will see how it goes. I am definitely seeing myself cutting my ties to some of the brands which take more time and energy than the things they bring to the blog. I will go on with my favorite brands, ones which inspire me and appreciate the work I am putting in the blog. Keyword is to relax by blogging, not stress and believe me it is not easy sometimes.
More on that soon, back to make-up. Today I have two stunning blue nail polishes by Chanel. These are a part of Blue Notes Collection which makes my music loving heart skip a beat. The collection just arrived to our shores so I will be seeing the other products in person this week. As for now, in the name of reviewing all Chanel n/ps released, here is my review and comparisons of Chanel Le Vernis #665 Vibrato and #681 Fortissimo.
Chanel Le Vernis #665 Vibrato, #681 Fortissimo for Blue Notes Collection |
Chanel Le Vernis #681 Fortissimo is a deep blue with metallic finish. The formula and consistency is great. In two coats it is perfectly opaque. I think Chanel nail polishes got much better in terms of intensity during the last year. Am I the only one who feels that way? Since the blue is very deep and intense, it doesn't look overly metallic like Bel-Argus, it also doesn't product brush strokes. I really like the color but feel like it is not that unique after all. I love the fact that it is not blackened though.

Chanel Le Vernis #665 Vibrato is a true stunner. This is one shade you should't miss and I will tell you why when I am showing you the comparisons. It is a gorgeous vibrant cobalt blue with cream finish. The consistency and formula is perfect. I wore this for 4 days, it only had minor tip wear. And everyone was commenting on my nails (in a good way!). Big love this one, a must-have for me. Below I am wearing two coats.

I pulled out quiet a number of blues from my stash to compare with both of these beauties. #681 Fortissimo is deep but not blackened which makes it a nice one within deep metallic blues. YSL #51 Bleu Cyclades is cooler, Chanel #667 Bel-Argus (reviewed here) is lighter and cooler, Tom Ford #34 Indigo Night (reviewed here) is deeper and more blackened, YSL #17 Bleu Cobalt is deeper as well. I didn't include Dior #791 Darling Blue but it is lighter and cooler, like YSL Bleu Cyclades.
Chanel #665 Vibrato is a vibrant blue, which is unique to my collection. I have seen some swatches showing it as a dupe to Dior #606 Electric Blue but you can see that they are very different. Electric Blue is lighter and cooler. YSL #18 Bleu Majorelle (sorry the number is wrong below in the photo) is very close to Dior Electric Blue but therefore not very much like the intense gorgeous Vibrato. Dior #700 Sailor is also lighter and cooler but it is the closest what I have in my collection. In short: Vibrato is to die for!

Check out Sunny's blog for more swatches of this collection. Karo also has beautiful swatches of nail polishes.
Final thoughts: I am loving both of the nail polishes of Chanel Blue Notes Collection. #681 Fortissimo is a nice deep metallic blue which is not too blackened but the really unique beauty of the two is #665 Vibrato. If you will get one nail polish this season and you like blue, don't miss Vibrato.
Did you end up getting anything from Blue Notes de Chanel? What is your favorite item?
Disclaimer: The products in this post were purchased by me.
Oh interesting. Vibrato is darker on me! I really do love it tho! Good luck with your last day at work!
ReplyDeleteI love Vibrato, it's the only thing I got from the collection. I always enjoy reading your life updates and look forward to hearing your thoughts about corporate vs academic work. Love the profile pic btw!!
ReplyDeleteHi Sunny,
ReplyDeleteVibrato is darker but under the sun it looks a bit lighter like this. On the comparison swatch I think the color is right. I have already linked to your post so that they can see your swatch too :-)
I think you picked the best piece from the collection :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the encouraging words. I will see how it goes. Hoping for the best. It was a hard decision, something very different but it felt right.
Aww thanks! I thought it's a skin tone thing haha
ReplyDeleteIch habe beide und ich liebe die sehr <3 Grandiose Farben <3
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your transition!! I wish you the very best and hope it is everything you hope for!
ReplyDeleteAs for the polishes, they both look gorgeous to me! I am a sucker for blue polish. I agree that the Vibrato is the more unique color but I may have to have them both ;-) xoxo
This is a cool collection and I love it. And lo and behold, I just found out in the last two weeks that I am starting a new job this week. So I have basically purchased from the collection to use navy as a fall neutral. I got Fortissimo, the eye liner and the navy mascara. I can wear them all with neutrals, with pale lavenders, with grays, gray mauves, taupes, with all the blues. I stopped short at Vibrato because I have Electric Blue, Bleu Majorelle, and Bleu Cyclades-- (and of course Baker Street) and I have never worn any of them. (Hides.) I also dug out Cosmique and another Chanel blue whose name I dare not speak. Of course, your stunning swatches are making me re-think this.
ReplyDeleteGreat roundup! I love, love, love blue polishes. Chanel Bel Argus is one of my all-time faves :)

Hello our precious Sara! I wish you from the bottom of my heart to have a good start in this new step in your life!i know it's very difficult to combine things when you have such an important profession but I hope as your reader that I will not lose the opportunity to relax reading your blog and admiring your really amazing work and love that you offer through blogging :*
ReplyDeleteNow blue notes related, I was about to buy only Vibrato but then Fortissimo was almost sold out everywhere here in Stockholm and when I saw it on the nails of the SA I thought I must get it too so I got the last one in store :) I really like that it is not blackened as Tom Ford's and it s really wearable! Thank you for your time and efforts and I really hope you will manage to combine both work and your love for make up :)
Wishing you well with the new job and lifestyle change. Transitions at work are very stressful but it sounds like you will be more fulfilled in this new post. I agree with you about this years Chanel colours being super intense. I put on Mediteranee for the first time yesterday and could easily have got away with one coat, same with Rouge Gorge. I like the Blues collection, it's just difficult for me to wear blue polish very often because it feels wrong at work!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the new job! And completely agree, I have both of these and Vibrato is just a winner (formula, colour, everything!)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the new job! I hope your transition goes well. I would be really sad to see you stop blogging, but I understand that it requires a lot of time and energy, and you don't want it to feel like another job.
ReplyDeleteI bought both of these and I love them (this collection was released in June here in Canada!). I agree that Fortissimo isn't the most unique, but I still like it a lot. Vibrato is stunning. I also picked up the turquoise blue mascara top coat that was released with this collection. I don't wear it very often but I couldn't resist the vibrant turquoise/gold sparkle combo. I thought the blue eyeshadows were really pretty, but I almost never wear blue eyeshadow, so I didn't feel that they were worth picking up for me.
love the twinkle in Fotissimo! <3 you have a glorious selection of blues.
ReplyDeleteAnd congrats on your new job!!! What wonderful news and thanks for sharing with your readers.
Hi Belly,
ReplyDeletethanks for stopping by and your wishes, beer hugs (yes still lol)
Hallo Karo,
Oh congratulations Professor! You're gonna kick ass :-)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your new position! Teaching is an important calling. I am glad you found it, or maybe it found you! And you are right to keep the focus on relaxing in here. Your readers will appreciate whatever and whenever you post, and enjoy it more when you are enjoying it.
ReplyDeleteI did pick up both of these polishes and love them. Fortissimo seemed more unique in my stash, but Vibrato is also unique for that hint of purple/periwinkle that is there. It reminds me more of Deborah LIppmann I know What Boys LIke than Dior Sailor because of that quality in its base. Give me all the blues!!! you have gorgeous comparisons here, thank you for that beautiful wheel
Chanel who must not be named! hahaha If it is what I think it is, I can see why.
ReplyDeleteLol that's a lot of blues! Thanks for the swatches!
ReplyDeleteExactly.
ReplyDeleteHallo Sara,
If you are a blue polis lover, this is your collection. You definitely need them both. We know Chanel doesn't release blue polishes very frequently.
ReplyDeleteYes love Bel-Argus, it is so vivid yet wearable (at least for me).
ReplyDeleteXox
Hi Hara,
ReplyDeleteaw this is such a lovely comment, thanks so much. I am passionate about things which I share here so I am definitely thinking to go on doing that. I have to find a good balance though. I should stay away from things which disappoint me, like some bad PR relations, rude comments, etc. etc. We will see how it goes.
I am glad you like them both. Chanel releases blues not very frequently and when they do, it is usually so lovely like these two. Loving them both as well. Xox
Now I am really intrigued,
ReplyDeletefirst, how? new job? tell us more about it.
Second, which blue? Bel-argus? Am I so dumb, lol, didn't understand why? Maybe I don't have it? Isn't Vibrato xxx enough? ;-)
Wow the releasing dates of Chanel is all over the place. We still didn't get the Fall Collection but in the States almost the christmas collection is coming out. I still would like to try the blue quad. I didn't go to the counter yet and I am afraid if I do, I might pick it up lol, trying to resist. I also almost never wear blue quads and gathered many Chanel blues over the years. But... Its formulation always get me.
ReplyDeleteThe job began this week and I am loving it so far. Less computer, more human interaction. For one whose nose was in a computer for years, like 10 hours a day, this is a great change. Also the new locale is gorgeous. IMHO one of the most beautiful regions and a place I've always wanted to live. I feel so fortune. Now as to the np-- did not say the name because it is rare and might cause heart palpitations in readers.
ReplyDeleteHi Lorraine,
ReplyDeleteyes I intend to go on posting as much as I can. Right now the semester didn't start so I am more relaxed, getting prepared but I know it will be very busy after the lectures begin. I might be a little slow for about 2-3 months.
I don't have I know what Boys like, it sounds like I have to get that one too!
LOL Lily, hoping for that!
ReplyDeleteLove both of them but love Vibrato even more ;-)
ReplyDeleteHi Susan,
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean, I am also not sure if I can wear blue nail polish that often from this point on. Work is fine but last time when I was working as a lecturer, female students told me they loved my nail polishes. Oh well, I smiled but what about the male ones (which dominate). Anyway, I guess I will see ;-))
I want the heart palpitation, is it Iridescent? Or Riva? Hmmm
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the job and I do hope you keep posting! I love reading your blog. I like Fortissimo better, think it will look nice with a pair of dark blue jeans
