Chanel Le Vernis #669 Chataigne, #671 Ecorce Sanguine, #679 Vert Obscur for Fall 2015, Swatch, Review & Comparison

Happy Friday! I am super behind the comments but please bare with me.

I am almost on holiday. Today I submitted my documentation, so the only thing left to do is pack my things and leave after my return. I hope there will be not so many corrections. I am so ready for holiday and can't wait for my birthday dinner tomorrow. We made a reservation in Heidelberg. I usually prefer to go to Strasbourg to spend a day shopping and there are also very good restaurants but we have just been there some weeks ago so decided to make a little change. We have never been to that particular restaurant in Heidelberg, so it is exciting but also a little risky. Let's see if Travel Advisor does the trick. Love the city, have you ever been to Heidelberg?

I have been working my way through Chanel Fall Collection. Today I have the nail polishes for you. I swatched them at Instagram already. With this post I would like to write a full review and also share some comparisons.

Chanel Le Vernis #669 Chataigne, #671 Ecorce Sanguine, #679 Vert Obscur

The shade which got my attention most is the super vampy blackened plummy brown, Chanel Le Vernis #669 Chataigne. Although my heart belongs to the vamp called #563 Vertigo which was released some years ago, I am always ready for a good vamp. Chàtaigne means chestnut in French which also describes this shade so wonderfully.

The formula of Chàtaigne is perfect, the consistency is just right. It basically applies itself and almost opaque in one coat. I always apply two coats for longevity reasons, so on these photos I am wearing two coats as well. To me Chàtaigne is a great alternative to a cream black, a little warmer, more wearable, less harsh.

I tried to capture the undertones of some of the blackened vampy shades in my stash and ended up with a view at the background. It was very hard to make the labels visible, so I hope you can read them. Chanel #18 Rouge Noire is more red, Chanel #573 Accessoire is lighter, redder, Chanel #478 Forbidden is warmer and a tad lighter. Chanel #469 Imperial is warmer and lighter as well. Chanel #599 Provocation is lighter and more plummy. The closest shade to #669 Chataigne I have is #427 Diabolic which is a tad deeper but very close.

Now on to the super deep cosmic green (if there is anything like that). Chanel Le Vernis #679 Vert Obscur (dark green in French) is a very interesting shade, a deep green with some blue but to me it is more green than teal. It appears to be very green with the first coat, rather blackened with the second. Although it looks black at that point it flashes green lights to you when you move your hand. Especially at the tip of your nails where the shade appears lighter.

#679 Vert Obscur is a straight cream and unfortunately its consistency is a little thin. I had to reapply two fingers just because it was runny and collected at the sides of the nail bed. I also believe this particular shade may stain. It was hard to remove even after swatching but I didn't dare to do a full week test with it without a base coat yet. I like it applied in two thin coats, such as I am wearing in these photos.

I don't have anything close in my stash at the moment but I included Chanel #219 Black Satin for you to see the difference between Vert Obscur and a straight black. Chanel #601 Mysterious is more grey, Chanel #361 Orage is cooler. The closest shade is Chanel #357 Nuit de Russie which is a black polish with blue shimmer. Since Vert Obscur doesn't have a shimmer, they are different.

Now the surprise shade of the collection is a red. How surprising can a red be right? I was thinking #671 Ecorce Sanguine (blood red peel?) has a cream finish like the other two. Then I was out making photos and it winked at me in a gorgeous golden way. I then fell in love with it. It is hard for me to explain, especially since I am a vampy nail polish lover and I usually don't wear red nail polish but this shade is my favorite of the three.

The consistency is right on, formula is to die for. #671 Ecorce Sanguine is almost a one coater but I am wearing two here. I also took an additional photo to show you the beautiful shimmer. The shimmer can only be observed on the nails under the direct sun light and even then it is very faint. But the secret shimmer gives this nail polish a beautiful complexity.

I asked at Instagram which of the hundreds of Chanel reds could be close to #671 Écorce Sanguine and some of you guessed it would be close to #475 Dragon. You are so right! Dragon is the closest nail polish I have. There was also a comment about #207 Barcelona Red (swatched here). This is also right on because both of these have golden shimmer. Barcelona Red has more shimmer than Ecorce Sanguine and it is just a little cooler if you look closer. Rouge No 19 (reviewed here) is cooler, Chanel #635 Expression (swatched here) is lighter. Another shade which has golden shimmer is Dior #758 Victoire (review) and it is lighter as well. Chanel #581 Cinema (review) is lighter, warmer, Chanel #587 Rouge Carat is more metallic and cooler. The red from summer collection, Chanel #717 Coquelicot (review) is lighter, brighter.

Two of the vampy nail polishes are featured at YouTube channel of Missfrankiecat as well with some comparisons and first impressions.

Final thoughts: I love me a good vamp so loving Chataigne and I know I will reach for it often once the weather cools down a bit. Because of the runny consistency of Vert Obscur and its tendency to stain, although it is a very unique shade, I am not too much into it. My surprise favorite is the blood red with golden hidden shimmer #671 Ecorce Sanguine, so classic and chic.

Are you eyeing any of these shades? Which one is your favorite?
