Chanel Le Vernis Longwear Nail Colour, Nudes & Vamps, Review, Swatch & Comparisons

I hope you are having a wonderful weekend. I have been silent lately, due to circumstances I explained during the last post, I didn't feel like writing something cheerful. In between I came to terms with being very tired and not seeing a red light. People are not machines but the system should be able to ignore exceptions. I drive since years and I hardly have speed ticket. Unfortunately for some people rules are more important than anything else. I will close this subject here and then. I have never been a soldier of rules *sigh*.

Chanel recently released ten new shades with a new formula called Chanel Le Vernis Longwear Nail Colour. I swatched and compared the pinks and the reds here. Today I would like to share my thoughts about the nudes and the vamps. The shades I am going to show you are: #504 Organdi, #514 Roubachka, #516 Mariniére, #522 Monochrome, #520 Garçonne.

I already talked about my impressions about Longwear Nail Color formula in general in my last post so I won't elaborate on that very much here. I just would like to write shortly that these indeed wear longer on me although I read different opinions about it. I don't usually were a base coat ( I know, I know but I can't help it, too much work) and I use OPI fast dry top coat. I usually apply two coats. I also found out that some of the shades have better consistency than the others. I will mention about these below for each shade.

Chanel Le Vernis Nail Color Longwear #504 Organdi is a beautiful nude. It is exactly my type of color. It reminded me of another nude which I love and it turned out to be very close to it, Dior Lady. The comparisons are at the end of the post but for your reference, they are not dupes.

#504 Organdi has great formula. It is opaque in two coats and it is not streaky with one. I wore this for a week. Although it chipped around day 5 slightly, since it is nude and since I didn't have time to reapply, I went to wearing it. I love Organdi, I think it is one of the stand outs from the new releases, especially for those who like a good nude. Until now I always found Chanel nudes to be too warm so I feel that this shade fills a gap in the collection as well.

One of the most original shades of this release must be Chanel Le Vernis Longwear #522 Monochrome. It is a beautiful cool toned stone shade which is exactly right up my alley. That said it is unfortunately one of the worst formulas of the release. I had to apply a few fingers more than once to make it look even. It is to the point streaky on me. I also read similar opinions, for example here

The following photos are taken with two coats and no top coat. Since the shade is really chic, I ended up wearing it two times since I got it, bad consistency or not, so it is your choice after all.

Chanel Le Vernis Longwear #520 Garçonne is a deep cool khaki shade which is another shade I find unique and very chic among the Longwear line. The consistency and formula of #520 Garçonne is much better than Monochrome. It applies easily and doesn't look streaky. I wore this one for a week and received compliments about it. I think the shade is especially nice for Fall but I still enjoy it. A++ here, something you shouldn't miss. Closest shades I have in my stash are from Chanel Khakis Collection which were released for Fashion Night Out around 4 years ago and were very limited. If you missed those, don't miss Garçonne. The following swatches are with two coats and no top coat.

Chanel Le Vernis Longwear #516 Marinière is a very deep blackened blue which almost appears black. I really like me a nice vamp so I was very excited about this one. During swatches I found out though, although the consistency is nice, it stains. Make sure to wear a base coat with this one. It is a nice shade as an alternative to black and it is deeper than all the previous releases of blue nail polishes in Chanel Le Vernis line. Below I am wearing two coats and no top coat.

Chanel Le Vernis Longwear #514 Roubachka is a very deep blackened purple, a shade Chanel line didn't have until now. I know similar shades from Dior like, like Poison. While I was preparing the post, I was going through deep purple shades of Dior and one slipped from my hand (Deep Plum) and reached the nail polish heaven. You can imagine what a mess it created in our flat. I had to mop everywhere with acetone *chuckled*. That was not it, some glass particles spread around and one went directly into my leg, I am hurt. Consider blogging to be a very risky business! *chuckles*

About #514 Roubachka, this is the kind of shade which makes my heart sing. I found it a little staining and the consistency is a little thin though. You can see that my ring finger which doesn't have a smooth surface like the other fingers shows the texture of the nail. I recommend you using a filling base coat with this one if you have similar issues. All in all still love it. Below I am wearing two coats.

Here are some comparisons to existing shades from Chanel Le Vernis line.

Chanel #504 Organdi is cooler than Chanel #661 Precious Beige (reviewed here) and it is warmer than Dior #294 Lady (reviewed here).

Chanel #522 Monochrome is lighter and cooler than #559 Frenzy.

Chanel #520 Garçonne is cooler than Chanel Khaki Vert and Chanel Khaki Brun. It is more khaki based than Chanel #505 Particulier.

Chanel #516 Mariniére is much deeper and blackened compared to Chanel Magic (reviewed here)

Chanel #514 Roubachka is deeper than Chanel #18 Rouge Noir. This shade was also deeper than Provocation and similar vamps in the line.

It is interesting to hear that in UK, Susan was informed that these won't replace the existing range but it is thought to be an additional range. You can hear about it here. I am tempted to reach Chanel PR in Germany and ask about it although they have been ignoring us bloggers a big time so my motivation is not so high. I will see.

Final thoughts: My picks from the second part of the collection is Garçonne and Organdi. Although Monochrome is lovely, unfortunately the formula is hard to work with compared to the other shades. I hope these are not replacing the regular line since some of the shades have very thin consistencies. I am smitten about the lasting power though.

Have you picked up any of these shades? Does the formula work for you?

  2. Oh, boy, this post has all the colors that call my name. So disappointed about Monochrome, that is the one that would be such a go-to for me. When I first saw your swatches of Organdi, I was surprised to notice a resemblance to Lady which is without a doubt one of my all time favorites. I was able to track down one of the last bottles at an out of state Sephora thanks to a friend. I'll have to go to the counter and swatch Garconne. I like that it looks a little lighter in tone. Though I have Alchimie and have maybe worn it once. Any way your swatches are gorgeous. So sorry for the bureaucratic snafu.

  3. Sorry to hear of the car situation - that sucks! I do love the look of Organdi and if only this formula worked on my nails it would be great as the 'normal' Chanel nudes can be a bit streaky. Thanks for the shout out. Susan, London

  4. Love, love, love Organdi ! Marinière is beautiful too, the color is really chic, like a pearl necklace with a silk " carré" ...Anyway, all those colors are very elegant.

  5. I'm sorry to hear about your problems and wish you all the best.

Thank you for your review and beautiful photos. I'm really tempted by Monochrome. I'll have to try it in store as I'm a bit put off by polishes that are difficult to apply. :)

  6. Hi Sara, sorry to hear the past couple of weeks have been so trying for you. And yikes, glass up your foot is no fun at all!! I'm glad to see you had the same issues with Monochrome, I was starting to think I was the only one with a bad bottle. Both Roubachka and Mriniere look very good! I'm definitely intrigued..... maybe I'll pick those up too!

  8. Sara, this one off topic. :) I need to buy a set of brushes, and can't choose between Suqqu and Rouge Bunny Rouge. I was wondering if you could advise me on which brushes are better in your opinion, since you know all about them and actually own brushes from both of these brands. Thank you so much! :)))
